Child Protection Awareness Training

All Information & Advice Persons are accredited “Keeping Safe®” programme facilitators.  Keeping Safe® is a standardised Child Protection Awareness Raising Training Programme which aims to raise awareness of issues of child protection and to assist groups in developing sound child protection policies in line with Children First and Our Duty to Care.

The training area’s included in this programme are:

  1. Developing a child protection policy and procedure.
  2. Appointing a Designated Officer as defined in Children First.
  3. Raising awareness about child abuse.
  4. Developing safe recruitment practices.
  5. Developing a good practice code of behaviour for staff.
  6. Making links – developing good relationships with the Health Board and other agencies in relation to child protection practice.

All groups funded by the HSE are required to have a child protection policy in place and a designated person as outlined in the Children First guidelines.  This will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.

Red Cross Community Services

The Irish Red Cross helps people around Ireland by providing a range of community services and activities through their local branches.

These services include:

  • The Therapeutic Hand Care Service where volunteers provide a hand massage and/or a manicure to patients in residential care or in their own home.
  • The Skin Camouflage Service which offers specialised advice to people with disfiguring skin conditions.

In response to the needs of local communities, some Irish Red Cross Branches provide services ranging from socials and outings for senior citizens, the provision of transport for sick and elderly people, to assistance to the Blood Transfusion Board.

Soon Arch Clubs throughout Ireland will be promoting and encouraging their members to take up the Gaisce – Presidents Award Clubs Challenge, where the members get involved in a local charity or community group, develop new or existing skills, become more active and discover the great outdoors on a team outdoor journey.

At the launch of this partnership this week (Tuesday 19th July 2017) in the Phoenix Park Dublin where three of Arch Club members who will start their challenge in the coming weeks, Niamh Cooke, Conor Caffrey and Stephen Brown and we wish them the best of luck and to all the arch club members throughout the country who we hope will take up the challenge and participate in the Gaisce Awards
